Silky and light
Combed yarn, in three twisted strands, providing an exceptional sensation to the touch. This untreated yarn, just washed and softened, is characterized by its softness and its warm side, which makes it a very pleasant wool to knit and wear. The Baby Alpaca fibers that make up this yarn come from selected farms in the Andean altiplano, in Peru and Bolivia.
In addition to its lightness and finesse, alpaca wool is very strong and elastic, its resistance and warmth are much higher than that of sheep. It is hypoallergenic, because it does not contain allergenic substances such as lanolin. It is ideal for babies and delicate and sensitive skin. Thanks to its thermoregulating and hygroscopic power, this natural and ecological fiber can be worn in all seasons. It is used to make delicate and slightly vaporous hats, sweaters and vests such as boleros or wraps. We can easily imagine it for making a loose sweater that falls from the shoulder, worn next to the skin or over a nightie on a Sunday morning. It is ideal in the composition of socks and slippers to keep feet dry and protect them from the cold.

What is a Sport weight yarn?
A little thicker than Fingering and a bit lighter than DK, Sport weight yarn can be used to create all kinds of projects. As it is quite fine, it is ideal for making children's clothing: it is often found in baby knitting patterns. Often dedicated to sweaters, it is perfect for many projects to be worn in all seasons. It is appreciated for textured knits or cables. Its medium fine yarn can be knitted with needles from 3.25mm to 3.75mm or with hooks from 3.5mm to 4.5mm. A 100g skein is about 250 to 350m.
What is a DK yarn?
Twice as thick as a Fingering yarn, DK (Double Knit) yarn, also known as Light Worsted, is ideal for scarves, hats and medium-weight sweaters. Neither too fine nor too thick, it allows you to create rather light and comfortable pieces that can be worn in all seasons. It is sometimes used to make thick and warm socks to wear indoors or more robust shawls for winter. This weight of yarn is very versatile, which is why it is popular with knitwear fans. This fine-medium yarn, very similar to the Sport weight yarn, is knitted with needles from 3.75mm to 4.5mm or with hooks from 4.5mm to 5.5mm. To reproduce the same effect, you can also knit two Fingering yarns together. An interesting method to mix two colors or mix different fibers. The skeins are about 200 to 250m per 100g.
Maintenance tips
To care for naturally dyed fibers:
– Wash and rinse your item carefully by hand, separately, in water at 30°C maximum.
– Use an organic vegetable soap or a mild natural detergent, neutral pH. A few drops of organic baby shampoo without soap will also take care of the wool and the color.
The use of soap or detergent with a pH that is too high, vinegar, baking soda, etc. is to be avoided, as this would permanently affect the color.
– Do not wring. Dry flat (to avoid deforming your work) away from direct sunlight.
Nous vous conseillons d’utiliser la lessive Eucalan disponible dans notre boutique, rubrique mercerie.
