At the workshop, we test lots of little wonders for you to discover

Composed essentially of proteins, they are organic in nature. They come from the fur or down of animals (yak, alpaca, sheep, camel, llama, angora rabbit or certain breeds of goat for cashmere and mohair), as well as from the filament woven by an insect, the larva of the mulberry bombyx, produced from farmed or wild silkworms.

Animal fibers

Obtained from plants, they are mainly composed of cellulose. They come either from the seed, as in cotton, or from the stem, as in ramie (Chinese nettle), flax, hemp or jute. These fibers are known as bast fibers.

Plant fibers

Kapok, for ecological filling of quality accessories

This plant fiber comes from the fruits of the Kapok tree, the Ceiba pentandra (from the Bombacaceae family), a large tree in tropical regions that is widespread in South America, Africa and Asia.

Inedible, this fruit comes in the form of an elliptical, woody and hanging capsule, 10 to 30 cm long. When ripe, this pod opens with five slits revealing a silky and cottony down that surrounds the seeds. Flattened and compressed in the shell, the very light and elastic fiber, beige in color, regains all its volume by simple exposure to air. It is sometimes called vegetable wool.

Kapok fiber has amazing characteristics. It is at the same time flexible, soft, swelling, resistant, hypoallergenic and antibacterial. It is a healthy and biodegradable material, naturally waterproof and rot-proof, with great thermal properties.

Another advantage of kapok fiber lies in its natural life cycle. It grows spontaneously and its extraction respects the environment, kapok fiber is therefore an innovative product with a positive impact.
